ABOUT AHMEDABAD
It was founded in 1411 AD by Sultan Ahmed Shah, and has an eclectic history, which is reflected in its economic past. After an initial boom in textiles, which awarded it the nickname “The Manchester of the East”, Ahmedabad became a thriving business center. By the early 1800’s however, the British East India Co. took over and again the city thrived in textiles. Following independence, it is known as the largest city in the State, supporting both thriving chemical and textile industries. Ahmedabad is also home to more than a dozen Colleges and Universities, including some of India’s most prominent institutions: National Institute of Design, the Amrita Institute of Management, and the Center for Environmental Planning and Technology. Students from all over India seek their educations here, and entrance requirements are strict, ensuring that the best and most deserving students receive proper preparation for the growing Indian and global economies. |
